Principal Diaz

Principal Jessica Diaz is a proud New York City public school educator whose career has been rooted in service, equity, and creating meaningful opportunities for children and families. She began her career with New York City Public Schools in 2007 and became a teacher of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in 2009.

Throughout her career, Ms. Diaz has served in a variety of instructional and leadership roles that have shaped her approach to school leadership. From 2014 through 2020, she served as a teacher mentor, data specialist, special education liaison, CFIT teacher, Reading Recovery specialist, SETSS teacher, and UFT chapter leader. These experiences provided her with a deep understanding of instruction, special education, literacy, data-driven decision-making, teacher development, and the importance of collaboration and advocacy within a school community.

In 2020, Ms. Diaz transitioned into school administration as an Assistant Principal. She joined the P.S. 91 community in 2022, where she has continued to work closely with students, families, teachers, and community partners to strengthen academic programs, expand opportunities for students, and cultivate a welcoming and supportive school culture.

Ms. Diaz was born in Puerto Rico and moved to New York City at a young age. She spent part of her childhood on the Lower East Side before moving to the Bronx, where she lived on 169th Street near the Grand Concourse. As a proud product of New York City public schools and public higher education, her educational journey included Hostos Community College, Lehman College, and Hunter College. Her personal experiences have shaped her belief in the transformational power of public education and in schools as places of opportunity, belonging, and possibility.

Her vision as a school leader is to create a school where every student feels loved, known, and challenged. She is committed to providing students with rigorous academic experiences while continuing to expand their access to the arts, creativity, performance, and opportunities that allow them to discover new talents and interests.

Ms. Diaz also believes that a school should extend far beyond the classroom. Her goal is to continue developing P.S. 91 as a community resource and hub for families—a place where parents and caregivers feel welcomed, supported, connected, and empowered as partners in their children's education.

Outside of school, Ms. Diaz enjoys reading romance and thriller novels, hiking, and watching movies. She is honored to serve the P.S. 91 community and looks forward to continuing to create, perform, grow, and dream alongside its students, families, and staff.
